Your Misery

Loneliness, you wear it
Like well-fitted clothes
You would keep all the thorns
And throw away the rose
Complete, you are, in your misery

Martyrdom, you wear it
Like your favourite shoes
You throw away your winning hand
And yet complain when you lose
Complete, you are, in your misery

Sometimes I like to close my eyes and see a false night
And I hide here in the shadows, afraid of the light
A single beam of truth that highlights everything I know
You may be brave to say the words
But will you reap what you have sown?

Emptiness, you wear it
Like a multi-coloured cloak
You throw away your treasures
And wonder why you’re broke
Complete, you are, in your misery
